Well, the good news is that you have many options and the purpose of this blog article is to share with you two ways of generating leads from the internet.
Some so-called Miami marketing “experts” have created the misconception that the best way to generate leads is to pay for them through “traditional” advertising via PPC campaigns on the internet. These campaigns can run you up to thousands of dollars per month depending on your business and depending on the times people click on your Ad.
Nowadays, the value of Organic SEO has been diminished by some because of two reasons: first, it would appear as though Paid Search aka PPC is better because when you pay Google for advertising, you pay to appear online under your selected search terms. Secondly, since some small business owners have obtained leads faster by paying for them through PPC, they regard it as the better choice for lead generation.
I agree that it “appears” as though when we run a “good” PPC campaign small business owners get leads quicker. Let me reinforce my earlier statement by repeating that there is, in fact, a difference between “good” organic SEO and a good PPC campaign. Yes, albeit organic SEO is more timing consuming and it must be ongoing to continue to be effective. I like to make an analogy and compare it to the difference between renting and owning a home (I say this because I am also a Real Estate Investor – so obviously I believe owning a home is better than renting – when you can afford it!).
Regarding content marketing and organic SEO, best-selling author, Seth Godin, says we must write content that is “remarkable” and he defines it has “something that other people find interesting enough to remark upon.” So, ask yourself, is your content “remarkable?”
Let’s go back to the question of which is more valuable – Paid Search (PPC) or organic SEO?
The answer is “Ce dépend” that means “it depends” in French. (I studied French in France 20 years ago so I figure I show off!)
Why would I say that – it depends?
On the one hand, if you have more time than money, you may want to consider a long term and ongoing investment of your time into sharing valuable content through the internet so that you can Get Found.
On the other hand, if you need clients right away and you can afford it – do some traditional PPC advertising. Why not? Go ahead and invest into a properly managed PPC campaign, but just make sure it is run correctly otherwise you will be making other people richer and yourself poorer.
Although I practice and teach an Inbound Marketing Methodology, I still believe that there is space for traditional marketing like PPC campaigns in the stratosphere (intended hyperbole).
You probably are wondering, and it’s a good thing to wonder, which is better for me? (I mean you!)
Well, look at your current business. Are you in desperate need for clients over the next month?
If you are, and you have the money to invest in PPC, then, you may want to consider a PPC campaign.
If you have enough clients to keep your business afloat for the next 3 to 6 months, and you have the time and the money (time = money) then invest it into delivering high quality content and begin attracting high quality ideal clients to you!
